The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) offers free training and technical assistance (TTA) to all OJJDP Tribal grantees to facilitate program planning, enhancement, and implementation. The Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI), along with our partner the National Native Children’s Trauma Center (NNCTC) provides TTA to increase tribal communities’ skills and knowledge about programs and strategies, building capacity to develop effective and sustainable programs for reducing juvenile crime and increasing youth potential in tribal communities.
When capacity allows, training and technical assistance is also available to the broader community of federally recognized tribes. Our staff offers a variety of training and technical assistance opportunities, as well as an extensive archive of online learning events.

What is individualized technical assistance?
We invite all OJJDP tribal grantees and interested federally recognized tribes to submit a request for individualized training and technical assistance (TTA) as needed. Our team offers a range of training to support knowledge development and skill-building to support youth prevention and intervention initiatives. We also assist communities as they work to implement and enhance program delivery and impact long-term change and address emerging issues. Our team of professionals look forward to providing you one-to-one, specifically tailored TTA. These interactions may occur through videoconference, teleconference, email, postal mail and in some instances on-site support.
On-Site Technical Assistance and Training
Unique needs or special circumstances may compel communities to submit a request for an on-site visit. An assigned technical assistance specialist will respond to the request to assess whether there is a unique need for in-person training and technical assistance. If approved by OJJDP and the Tribal Youth Resource Center (TYRC) a team will meet with you to will collaboratively plan the site visit. Specific learning objectives and desired outcomes are outlined to meet the needs and expectations of the requesting site.
What to expect
After submitting a request for individualized technical assistance you will receive a receipt of confirmation from our team. A staff member of the TYRC team will connect with you to understand the primary purpose of the request, identify additional areas of need and help you assess the readiness of your community, provide specialized guidance, share helpful resources, and support necessary referral of requests that outside the scope of TYRC services. Because our goal is to be a good relative, individual care is given to the details of each request.
